Etymology
From Proto-West Germanic *wegan, from Proto-Germanic *weganą, from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ-. Cognate with Old Frisian wega, Old Saxon wegan, Dutch wegen, Old High German wegan (German bewegen), Old Norse vega (Swedish väga), Gothic (gawigan). The Proto-Indo-European root is also the source of Ancient Greek ϝοχος (wokhos), ὄχος (ókhos, “vehicle”), Latin vehō (“carry”).
