Dictionary data
Headwords, senses, quotations, IPA, inflection tables, etymologies and descendants are taken from Wiktionary, written by Wiktionary contributors, through the kaikki.org Old English extraction produced with wiktextract. This material is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).
Every entry page links to its source page on en.wiktionary.org, where the full edit history and the list of authors can be found.
Changes we make
The data is reformatted: inflection lists are arranged into tables, records with the same headword are merged onto one page, and lookup indexes (forms, Modern English correspondences) are derived from it. These derived datasets are adaptations of the Wiktionary material and are released under CC BY-SA 4.0 as well.
Downloading the derived data
Everything the site reads is published unminified, as the share-alike licence requires: the JSON shards the pages and the redirects are built from live under /_data/. Start from the manifest, which lists every shard; shard_map.json maps a lookup key to its shard and stats.json carries the record counts. Each shard is a plain JSON object keyed by headword or form.
Site code and design
Share-alike applies to the data, not to the site's code, templates or styles, which are licensed separately.
