Etymology
The a-stem genitive singular ending is derived from Proto-West Germanic *-as, from Proto-Germanic *-as. Based on the voiceless *s, Ringe 2006 argues that this ending was analogically taken from the genitive singular determiner *þas, from *tósyo.
